
Sioux Catlinite Horse Pipe Bowl and Stem, c. 1890, flat sides with extensive floral designs, with a saddle. Exquisitely carved twisted stem, with incised geometric designs, lg. 17 1/2 in, ht. 3 1/2 in.
Collected by Carroll Richard Thorn Sr. in the early 1900's. Carroll Richard Thorn Sr. owned an extensive pipe collection and was a banker in Sheridan, WY. His father, Joseph Dayton Thorn was a banker and rancher. The town of Dayton, WY was named after Joseph.
